Moscow Mule

The Moscow Mule is a refreshing easy-sipper that remains one of my all-time favorite vodka-based cocktails.  Traditionally comprised of vodka, lime juice, ginger beer, the Moscow Mule is served in the iconic copper mug designed to keep the drink cold from beginning to end making it perfect for providing relief on the hottest day.  Ideally, a Moscow Mule is prepared and served with crushed ice in the copper mug and topped with ginger beer (I prefer Fever Tree). I also like to throw a few dashes of Angostura aromatic bitters to give it a little more of a unique flavor (I promise, it is quite subtle but feel free to simply omit).  Last, but certainly not least, your garnish(es)… the lime wedge (or wheel) is the bare-minimum as it is something you will already have on hand and juiced for the cocktail itself.  On the other hand, if you want to take a rather basic cocktail and elevate the overall experience, the aromatic quality of the mint is a great addition as well as crystalized ginger (think of it as a little alcohol-soaked treat) skewered resting in the cocktail.  But don’t take my word for it, make one and try it for yourself!

Moscow Mule

In your copper glass, combine the Angostura bitters, lime juice, vodka.

  • 2 dashes / 0.25 tsp of Angostura Bitters

  • 0.5 oz of Lime Juice

  • 2 oz of Vodka

  • 4 oz of Ginger Beer (to top)

Add crushed ice to your copper mug, stir, and top with the ginger beer.  Garnish with a lime wedge, bouquet of mint, and crystalized ginger.

TIP(S):

  1. Making your own crushed ice — place your ice cubes in either a lewis bag or dish towel and breaking it up with a mallet until reduced to hunks and shards.
