Hugo Spritz
The Hugo Spritz is a refreshing libation that is perfect for the hot summer months. Although primarily consisting of Prosecco and club soda, even in its small quantity, elderflower liqueur is the stand-out ingredient bringing both a touch of sweetness and nuance with its light and fruity flavor. When it comes to preparation, in lieu of a mixing glass or shaker, I suggest adding all of the ingredients directly in the wineglass. Start by placing the loose mint leaves and elderflower liqueur in the glass ensuring the oils from the leaves have had a change to combine before adding the ice and sparkling ingredients. Don’t forget to garnish your Hugo. I prefer to keep it simple with a bouquet of mint — not only for the aesthetics, but it provides an aromatic quality to the cocktail that is imperative to the overall experience — however, the addition of a lemon wheel is fairly common too. But don’t take my word for it, make one and try it for yourself!
