Pimm’s Cup
Pimm’s Cup is a refreshing and popular libation across the pond that was originally marketed as a health drink in the early 1800s. If you’ve never had it before, Pimm’s No. 1 is a gin-based liqueur that has a muted fruity and herbal quality to it. The cocktail itself relies heavily on ginger beer as a lengthener; this helps soften the medicinal flavor with the help of a touch of lemon juice to bring some much needed brightness into the mix. The Pimm’s Cup is extremely easy to prepare (and pre-batch) as it is made directly in your highball or Collins glass before adding ice and topping with ginger beer. However, the true essence of this cocktail is in its garnish: combinations of cucumber, strawberry, lemon (or orange), and mint are common. Although it may feel over-the-top, how you choose to incorporate and display everything is entirely up to you. But don’t take my word for it, make one and try it yourself!
